A family that remembers itself
You probably can't name your great-grandfather — or your great-grandmother. But what if you could name your great-great-great-grandparents? Tell us the little you remember, and we'll bring back the rest, drawn on paper good enough to hang.
Yours to keep — or the perfect gift for your parents or grandparents, for a birthday, Christmas, or just because.
No research required from you. No subscriptions. Our promise: at least four generations — back to your great-grandparents — or you're not charged.
Why we started Rooted
Most people can't, and we think that's a problem. A few generations back, a whole person goes quiet: the work, the courage, the ordinary mornings that led, eventually, to you. The loss is so slow that nobody mourns it. It just becomes a blank.
Family is the thing that matters most, and that blank is worth filling. The names are not gone, only mislaid, waiting in records and registers for someone to go looking. We do the looking, and we hand back what was almost forgotten.
Our goal is simple. We want to bring family, and the love of family, back. A name spoken again at the dinner table. A face on the wall. Proof that you come from somewhere, and from someone.
How it works
Names, rough dates, the towns people came from — even the half-sure ones. Not certain on a spelling or a year? Guess. A $299 deposit begins the work and covers the full research.
We trace your family back at least four generations and send you the finished tree to see — every name checked against real records, with anything we can't fully confirm flagged honestly. If we ever can't reach four generations for your family, you're not charged a cent.
Your $299 delivers the finished tree, traced as far back as the records can find, as a high-resolution digital file. Want it on the wall? Add $300 and we print it on heavyweight matte paper and ship it to your door, ready to frame.
See the real thing
Close-ups from an actual finished Rooted tree. Anything we couldn't fully verify is marked in yellow, so you always know exactly what's proven and what's still being researched.
Made to last generations
Just ask, and we'll build your tree with a few blank places at the bottom — for the children and grandchildren not yet born. When they arrive, you write their names in by hand. The same tree, growing with your family for decades.
Why not just use Ancestry?
Ancestry and MyHeritage are tools — you pay every month, and you do the digging. Most people sign up, get overwhelmed, and quit, and the great-grandfather stays a blank. Rooted does the work for you, verifies it, and hands you something to hang on the wall.
The person behind Rooted
I'm Aaron, and Rooted started with my own family. I began with a couple of names and a lot of blank space, and I kept pulling the thread — census pages, ship manifests, parish records in languages I couldn't read.
Eventually it all connected: seven generations, back to the 1700s in Denmark, Sweden, Poland, and Scotland. Names my own family hadn't spoken aloud in a hundred years. Seeing them together on one page changed how I felt about where I come from — these weren't strangers, they were the reason I'm here.
I built Rooted so you can feel that too, without spending months learning to do the research yourself. You tell me what you remember. I'll find the rest, and hand your family back to you.
— Aaron, founder
More than a tree — a way to feel it
The tree shows you who they were. This book helps you understand what their lives were actually like. For each ancestor, it pulls together the real records that prove your family — census pages, ship manifests, birth and death records — each one cited. Then, for the ones who crossed the ocean, it tells their story in plain language: the town they left, the work they did, how much they earned, what they ate, the trip over, and the life they built here. A printed book that makes you really appreciate where you come from.

Simple, and fair
A $299 deposit covers the full research and gets you your complete tree — traced as far back as the records can find — as a high-resolution digital file. Want it on the wall? Add $300 and we print and ship it, ready to frame. Our promise: we reach at least four generations — back to your great-grandparents — or you're not charged a cent.
$299
A full digital tree — your family traced as far back as the records can find.
$599 total
$299 to begin, $300 when your tree is ready to print.
Sizing: most finished trees print at 24×36″ — a standard frame you can buy anywhere — while larger, deeper families come as a panoramic up to about 20×60″. We confirm your exact size, and a frame that fits, before it ships. Frame not included. The $299 deposit pays for research time and isn't charged twice; if any detail isn't right, we revise it until it is, at no extra cost. Our four-generation promise: every tree reaches at least four generations, back to your great-grandparents. In the rare case the records can't take us that far, your $299 deposit is refunded in full — you're not charged a cent. Backed by sources: every connection comes with the real records behind it, and anything not yet fully verified is marked right on your tree. Genealogy is evidence-based, not an exact science — we stand behind our work and will fix any error, but we can't promise every detail is flawless.
However you want it on the wall
The printed Heirloom edition arrives as a poster (the $299 digital edition is the file alone). Want it ready to hang the day it lands? Add a finish.
Your tree on heavyweight matte paper, shipped rolled in a sturdy tube. Frame it your way.
Two wood rails, top and bottom, with a hanging cord — the warm, Scandinavian heirloom look. Ships flat and fits any width, even the panoramics.
Arrives in a finished frame, ready to hang — no trip to the framer. Only available for the standard 24×36 size.
Printed on gallery-wrapped canvas: no glass, no glare, ready to hang at any size.
Begin your tree
A few names, the towns they came from, the decades that feel about right. We'll take it from there. Fill in what comes to mind and leave the rest blank — the digging is our job, not yours.
Adopted, blended, step, or chosen family — every family belongs here.
We've got your details. We'll review them and email you within 1–2 business days with next steps and your secure payment link. Keep an eye on your inbox.
That's exactly what we're built for. A few first names, a rough decade, a town you heard about at the dinner table. We start from what you have and follow it back. You don't have to know much — that's our job, not yours.
We verify every name against real records, and you'll see the finished tree before anything prints. If a detail is ever off, we correct it at no charge — getting it right is the whole job.
A $299 deposit covers the full research and delivers your finished tree as a high-resolution digital file — your family traced as far back as the records can find. If you'd like it printed on heavyweight matte paper and shipped to your door ready to frame, add $300, for a total of $599. The deposit pays for the research itself, so it's never charged twice — and the digital option stands on its own if you'd rather skip the poster.
At least four generations — you, your parents, your grandparents, and your great-grandparents — or your deposit is refunded in full. Most families reach further; many land in the 1800s. In the rare case the records can't take us back four generations, you're not charged a cent.
You're exactly who we love working with. We can build your tree around the family who raised you, your biological lines, or both — however you define family. Just tell us what you'd like on the form.
A high-resolution digital file of your finished tree, yours to keep and print — and, with the Heirloom edition, a large-format printed poster shipped to your door, ready to frame.
